CAMP 4 CAMP QUALITY: PUTTING THE FUN IN FUNDRAISING

This year’s Camp 4 Camp Quality is all about celebrating what makes camp days so special and we’re encouraging anyone and everyone to jump on board.

Going to camp is about fun, adventure and friendship. So whether you want to camp out for a night, challenge yourself to a thrill seeking activity like a sky dive, or hold an office morning tea – that’s up to you! Simply register at www.camp4campquality.org.nz/, share your page with friends and family, and get fundraising throughout the month of May.

All proceeds support Camp Quality to provide free camps and recreational programmes that help children living with cancer to have some fun and feel empowered to overcome the challenges cancer brings. Help us give more deserving kids the chance to live, laugh, and just enjoy being children at camp.

HELPING KIDS LIKE REEF ENJOY CAMP

Reef Smith (now 6) was first diagnosed with leukaemia at 20 months old in October 2014, and has been in and out of hospital for much of his early life until he finished chemotherapy last year.

The family was introduced to Camp Quality through the Child Cancer Foundation, and in 2018 he was finally old enough to attend a two night winter camp, then the longer five night summer camp earlier this year.

“Reef was the youngest member on camp, but he absolutely loved it. I was worried he would really miss me as he is young and we have a close bond having spent so much time together in a hospital room over the years” shares Rosie. “But he didn’t miss me a bit! He was too busy having fun, which is amazing.

“Reef had an incredible companion called Bryce, he loved that. He also enjoyed all the freedom he experienced on camp. Normally he is told ’no’ a lot, because of all he’s been through and his compromised immune system. But on camp, they say yes to everything – it’s set up in such a way that he can have fun and take part in everything, it was such a joy to him and to us. The kids are encouraged to be themselves and to feel as normal as possible, which is exactly what these kids need,” she says.

With Camp 4 Camp Quality, our goal is to raise over $100,000 to help more children like Reef attend camp and experience fun, hope, and happiness. Will you help make that happen?
